By highlighting the incredible work done by three amazing organisations, I hope to affect change and have a positive impact on the lives of many. I am using my journey to the pole to raise funds for three charitable causes that are important to me and my project partners.
Working closely with each of my chosen charities I aim to follow the money and share with the 90ºNorth community the success and good work that the funds we raise will secure.
Over the coming months we will be engaging with children from two different schools, located in two very different settings. Our community of young explorers will follow my journey and build a global network spanning the UK, Lithuania and South Africa. We hope to help these amazing young people learn about each other and the world around them, whilst also supporting them to raise funds for African based charity Ubuntu Pathways.
Ubuntu helps children across South Africa to get access to better education, regardless of background and circumstance. Ubuntu support children throughout their educational journey, from pre-school to finishing University. Through our adventure, we hope to inspire young people to dream big and achieve the extraordinary things that we know they are capable of.
Covid-19 has challenged us all. It has also reminded us of the importance of two things…community and the NHS. Underfunded, and until recently undervalued. The NHS is the foundation of a healthy community. It is there to support each and every one of us in our time of need. I am lucky enough to be married to one of our NHS hero’s and have seen first-hand the challenges that they face on a daily basis. Through my adventure I will work to inspire my local community to raise funds for the Western Sussex Hospitals Trust.
Cancer sadly touches all of our lives. Personally, I have in recent years lost a number of friends well before their time. Seeing the life drain from young active people, and the void left in families has motived me to actively support Cancer Research UK as they strive to fund scientists, doctors and nurses to help beat cancer sooner.
